MSM

Methylsulfonylmethane

MSM has been a miracle supplement for me. I have been taking it every day for about 20 years now and can notice how much better I feel by doing so. MSM helps by decreasing certain pro-inflammatory cytokines which are signaling proteins linked to chronic inflammation.

Rolled Oats

Oats contain beta glucan, which is a soluble fiber used by your gut bacteria to create small chain fatty acids such as butyrate that can help to strengthen the immune system. Butyrate can also strengthen the tight junctions in intestinal epithelial cells. This helps to decrease the incidence of "leaky gut" type symptoms.

Cereal

This tasty cereal is made from oat bran, millet and brown rice. I find that during a flare up, it is one of the only foods that doesn't bother me and actually helps to get my symptoms back under control. I usually eat it with almond or oat milk.

Collagen

Collagen contains a broad mix of amino acids (the building blocks of proteins). The amino acid L-Glutamine is one of those that may help to protect the intestinal mucosa. I prefer to use this supplement to get my daily dose of L-Glutamine, not only because the other amino acids (like Arginine) may have synergistic affects on proinflammatory cytokine reduction (to reduce inflammation) but also because it is a fairly tasteless, easy addition to a smoothie.
